Best Glucometers in India 2022

Owning a glucometer is very handy. Infact, I would say, it’s almost essential to have one at home and not just if there is a person in your family with diabetes. Glucometers check your blood sugar levels when you are feeling a bit sick, nauseous or giddy, so you can take the appropriate action. There are loads of glucometer brands in India, being a country where almost every family has people who have diabetes. So I spent some time checking out the various brands and have come up with this list of the Best Glucometers in India:

Top Glucometers in India 2022

OneTouch Select Plus Simple Glucometer

The fact to be kept in mind before purchasing any glucometer is that the results shown by a machine at home will definitely be about 10-15% different from the one derived from a lab test.

Having said that, the OneTouch Select Plus Simple Glucometer comes pretty close to lab results.

The glucometer is battery operated and one of the leading sellers in the USA. This machine is small in size and very simple to set up, with no complicated steps or technology involved.

At the same time, all it gives you are the test results, nothing more, nothing less. The needle is quite small and the machine needs just a couple of drops of blood to display the results.

The only downside to this glucometer is that the strips that you need to purchase are expensive.

Contour Plus One

One thing that makes me nervous about glucometers is the fact that I need to prick myself everyday (or sometimes several times a day).

It certainly helps that these days many glucometer brands are striving to make the needle as fine and small as possible.

Contour Plus One is a glucometer model that manages to achieve this, and while I wouldn’t say it is absolutely pain free, I am not really dreading testing myself on this machine either.

Apart from this, Contour Plus One uses more technology than the OneTouch Select Plus Simple Glucometer with downloadable test results, and can store upto 800 of them.

The device is Bluetooth enabled and can be linked to an app on your phone. You can also set reminders for doctor’s appointments on this.

This glucometer allows you to run the test twice with the same blood to ensure that the results are accurate. I especially like the “Smart Light Feature” which acts as an alert to people who have critically high or low blood sugar levels.

Accu-Chek Active

Accu-Chek is one of the leading brands of glucometers in India. There are several models and I have listed them as they are all efficient and reliable.

The Accu-Chek Active is a small machine that is portable with a memory that can hold upto 500 results.

This can be downloaded into a drive for your records, using the inbuilt USB port. It also displays the average reading and you choose between 7, 14, 30 or 90 days. You can mark the test as pre-meal or post-meal, which is very helpful.

The machine gives you a reminder to test your blood sugar level 2 hours after a meal. If you don’t supply enough blood for the test, the machine gives you a 10 second window to re-dose it.

The needle is super fine, so you hardly feel the prick.

Accu-Chek Instant S

Accu-Chek Instant S is one of the quickest glucometers, giving you the results in less than 5 seconds.

Like the Accu-Chek Active, this glucometer also relies heavily on technology to give you average test results (of 7, 30 or 90 days depending on what you want) and data that can be downloaded into the Accu-Chek Connect Online Portal through a USB.

There is a target range indicator which makes it visually clear whether your levels are normal, high or low.

The test strips have a wide dosing window, so you can dose anywhere with very little amount of blood, which gets absorbed automatically.

You already know that being as pain-free as possible is something I look for in glucometers, and this one satisfies it to a large extent.

Dr.Morepen GlucoOne

If you are looking for a cheap glucometer that does the job efficiently, I can recommend the GlucoOne by Dr.Morepen.

Costing much less than the leading brands of glucometers in the market, this basic model comes with a large display and gives you the results in under 6 seconds.

It also needs only about 0.5 µL of blood to give you close to accurate results, and I like the beeper that goes off when it’s ready.

It stores upto 300 readings and can give you the average of 7, 14 and 31 day test results. Set up is simple and requires no coding or device linking. This model comes with 10 lancelets in the kit along with 25 test strips.

Dr Trust

The glucometer by Dr Trust is a mid range device that has a lot of features but is fairly easy to use.

It is manufactured in the USA but comes with a 1 year warranty in India, which can further be extended to another 6 months by registering the device on the manufacturer’s website.

The glucometer device uses the advanced GHD-FAD strip enzyme technology which does not interfere its testing with the variations in the oxygen levels of the blood.

It also keeps away galactose and maltose interference in blood samples, giving us more accurate results. You can check your sugar levels not only from your fingertips, but also from other parts of your body.

This is helpful for those who check their blood sugar levels often, allowing the sore parts to heal. The glucometer has a huge memory and stores upto 1000 test results with the date and time when it was conducted.

You can set an alarm in the glucometer to remind you to check your glucose levels, both, before and after your meals. It also lets you know if your ketones are rising above or falling below the normal standards.

Testing is done pretty quickly and your results are displayed in about 5 seconds. Like most advanced devices these days, there is an ejector to get rid of the used strip without having to touch it.

The LCD display is huge and clear, and is backlit if you want to read it when it is dark. The kit comes with 10 strips after which you can buy extra strips at a nominal price.

Accusure Simple Glucometer

Accusure Glucometer is widely used in homes across India and is a favourite because of how simple and easy it is to use.

It is also one of those glucometers that displays close to accurate readings and is priced very affordably.

This is a device that has quite a few extra features apart from reading your blood glucose levels and displaying them, and is value for money. It has a memory where it can hold your test results.

These can be linked to your PC and stored as well. You can adjust the settings for pre-meal and post-meal tests and the results are displayed on the backlit LCD display in less than 10 seconds.

The glucometer requires a very small quantity of blood and the strip ejection mechanism makes it hygienic and safe to remove the used strip.

The kit comes with 25 test strips, which is more than double of what most brands offer.

Contour Plus Blood Glucose Monitoring System

The Contour Plus Blood Glucose Monitoring System is a basic model of glucometer that does the job of testing your blood glucose level and displaying the result. It’s more of a plug and play kind of device that requires no setting up or coding.

The accuracy level is quite high with an error of only +-15%. It displays results in less than 6 to 7 seconds of testing.

The strips require about one or two drops of blood (about 0.6 µl) and the machine also has a second chance sampling feature with a 30 second window. This glucometer is priced nominally and is a good low budget option, absolutely value for money.

Accu-Chek Guide Glucometer

The Accu-Chek Guide Glucometer is the other model from this brand on my list and this one is highly advanced and very accurate.

This is also one of the more expensive glucometers in the market and it has features that justify the price.

The device comes in a neat case that makes it clean and convenient to carry it when you are traveling. It comes with a box that contains the vials, to help keep them from spilling over when you want to remove just one.

The glucometer uses Wi-Fi to connect to the diabetes management app on your smartphone, directly downloading all test results.

Like the other strips by Accu-Chek, the Guide Glucometer also uses ones that have a wide testing window, making it simple and easy.

The strip port on the device is lit, so you don’t have to fumble in the dark. There is a button that ejects the used strip, keeping your fingers hygienic. The kit comes with 10 strips to start with, after which you can buy more separately.
